PICO RIVERA — The City Council used part of its Nov. 12 meeting to honor longtime public-safety and volunteer leaders in Pico Rivera.

Captain Hernandez and representatives from El Rancho Unified and other community organizations presented Deputy Sergio Peralta with tributes and a plaque recognizing 36 years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and many years serving local schools as a school-resource deputy and mentor. "We have the privilege of recognizing a true pillar of public safety in our community," Captain Hernandez said, thanking Peralta for a long career.

Council then recognized youth volunteer Sebastian Arias as a 2025 youth ambassador for his service at El Rancho High School and in community organizations. Council and community members also presented the mayor's volunteer-of-the-year award to Paul Camacho for nearly five decades of coaching and volunteerism; several speakers highlighted his mentorship, veteran status and longstanding community involvement.

Councilmembers and residents offered personal anecdotes and gratitude. The city presented plaques, proclamations and certificates in recognition.

Those recognitions preceded the council's business agenda and public hearings.
