Steve Pfeiffer, representing Suburban Estates property owners, presented a neighborhood petition asking the county to allow double chip seal and a seal coat on roughly one mile of roads in Suburban Estates. Pfeiffer said a Sept. 23 meeting drew 41 property owners, 32 of whom attended and that of those attendees only two opposed the plan; he reported the neighborhood vote produced roughly 78% support among attendees.
“I'm here just wanting to see if you guys will approve this and move this forward,” Pfeiffer told the commissioners, describing the roads in the area (Hickok Avenue, Buffalo, Hay City Road, Swanson Road) and noting concerns about washboarding once grader work occurs.
Commissioners asked whether residents had been informed about needed road preparation—particularly bringing in a good base to stabilize the surface—and about heavy‑truck traffic and future development on a few undeveloped lots. Pfeiffer said he met with county staff (Brandon/Brendan) and discussed ditch upgrades and other preparatory work, and he acknowledged additional discussion with homeowners will be required to address water‑line depth and ditch impacts.
Commissioners said they had no immediate objection to the neighborhood pursuing the project but emphasized that adequate base preparation and ditch work are essential for a durable chip‑seal treatment. No county funding authorization or formal contract award was recorded at the meeting; commissioners said staff would continue to work with the neighborhood to identify priorities and next steps.
