LA County Sheriff's representatives presented a monthly CompStat briefing to the Lancaster Criminal Justice Commission, saying overall violent crimes show mixed trends: homicides are down year‑to‑date while robberies and certain sex‑related offenses have risen.
The sheriff's office reported 12 homicides year‑to‑date in 2025 compared with 19 in 2024, a 36.8% reduction, and said seven of the incidents involved firearms. The agency reported 222 robberies YTD (an 8.3% increase from 205) and 672 aggravated assaults YTD (a 9.4% reduction from 742 last year). Auto thefts were down to 826 YTD from 953 the prior year.
"If you look at our criminal homicide in Lancaster, total incidents so far year to date in 2025 are 12 compared to 19 reported last year," the Sheriff's presenter said. The presenter described targeted teams, Flock camera data and weekly analyst maps used to concentrate enforcement in hot spots.
Commissioners pressed on the apparent rise in reported forcible sex incidents; sheriff's staff said counts reflect when incidents are reported and that some reports may concern offenses that occurred years earlier. The sheriff's representative also acknowledged ongoing 911 system issues: calls ordinarily route to Lancaster Station but are sometimes rerouted to Palmdale when technical issues occur, and response times vary by priority (approximately 21 minutes for priority calls, 6–7 minutes for emergencies; routine reports can take longer).
Public safety updates included a multi‑agency operation at I and 10th that resulted in 10 arrests at two illegal gambling 'TapTap' sites and a prostitution‑related enforcement series on Sierra Highway with seven arrests and a subsequent local decrease in visible activity, officials said.
The sheriff's office said it will continue surveillance and enforcement in identified problem areas and work with property owners to address recurring illegal activity. Officials also noted increased arrests for the month and that specialized teams have been split to focus on auto theft and robberies separately.
