Vicki Davis, Martin County supervisor of elections, announced that a Florida law taking effect July 31, 2024, will require randomly generated numbers on all renewed driver's licenses and identification cards.
"Effective 07/31/2024, a new law requires all Florida residents renewing their driver's license or identification card to receive a card with randomly generated numbers," Davis said, explaining the change will affect how election offices verify requests for vote-by-mail ballots and signatures on initiative petitions.
Davis said residents who renew their driver's license in person may opt to update their voter registration at the same time. "If you choose this option, your new driver's license information will be automatically sent from the tax collector's office to the elections office, ensuring your voter record is up to date," she said. Voters who update registration will receive a new voter information card reflecting any changes.
She emphasized that in-person voting procedures are not affected by the new card format. "In person voting will not be affected by this change," Davis said. Voters casting ballots in person will still need to present photo identification and a signature ID at check-in to receive their ballot.
For questions about how the new driver's license format affects requesting a mail ballot or signing an initiative petition, Davis directed residents to contact the Martin County Elections Office at (772) 288-5637 or visit martinvotes.gov.
