The Mobile City Council on Nov. 12 heard an update from the mayor about ongoing street and infrastructure work and approved several contracts, resolutions and appointments by voice vote.
Mayor Jared Gattis reported that South McGregor Avenue's reconstruction remains on schedule to be completed by the end of the year, that Royal Street has begun repaving in preparation for Mardi Gras, and that the MLK Jr. Avenue Complete Streets project will begin the week of Nov. 12. He said the city's upcoming resurfacing contract will represent "more than $16,000,000" in road improvements drawn from the council's capital improvement program.
The council approved routine business items including a waiver of the noise ordinance for two upcoming events, authorization of a contract with Volker for design and engineering of Perch Creek Preserve, a purchase order to Quorum Air Conditioning for Spring Hill Recreation Center, and several other purchase orders and grants. The council also appointed Jerry Williams to the Human Relations Commission and reappointed Jeremy Milling to the Board of Adjustment.
Council members highlighted community events and outreach: District 1 announced a Linwood community meeting on Nov. 18; District 3 announced a SNAP/food assistance event on Nov. 15; Vice President Gregory promoted the Port City Classic events and the Mobile Museum of Art programs.
Several ordinances and resolutions were laid over for additional review (including an amendment to Chapter 52 on a vacant structure registry) so council members can review line‑by‑line amendments before final votes.
