The Flat Rock City Council voted to extend its residential waste contract with Priority Waste Incorporated after staff and the DPW recommended keeping the existing service model.

Council took the item off the table and heard from a city representative and company liaison, who said the company’s revised offer set the rate at “$17.74 per house per month” with a 3% annual increase and optional two- and three-year extensions. Council confirmed that weekly curbside collection and recycling services would continue under the extension. “The services will be exactly the same as they currently are,” the company representative said.

Council members asked for clarification about recycling and collection frequency; one councilmember asked, “We’re approving the recycling aspect in this deal as well. Correct?” and the representative replied that recycling was included. After discussion the council moved, supported and approved the contract extension by voice vote.

The extension preserves the current weekly schedule for residents and locks in the per-house pricing and escalation terms presented; the motion passed without a recorded roll-call tally in the minutes. The council thanked the representative for attending and representing the company.
