The Jackson County Board of Supervisors voted to authorize a $500 claim to the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC) to support an amicus brief in the case of Coorser v. Shelby County.

Board members said the case could affect counties' home-rule authority and decided the contribution was a modest way to participate in a statewide legal response. One supervisor noted that while the pipeline dispute in the lawsuit does not directly affect Jackson County, the broader home-rule questions could have future implications for county governance.

The auditor's office was authorized to prepare and submit the $500 claim to ISAC. The motion carried on a voice vote.
