Shannon Crook and Britney Berto presented the school social worker team’s work and data to the board on Nov. 11, describing the team’s role in removing barriers to student learning by connecting home, school and community services.
Crook said the team serves between two and four schools each and highlighted first‑quarter activity: 3,504 parent contacts, 434 home visits, over 1,000 economic‑aid interventions and 7,391 consultations with school staff. She said 20% of the team’s caseload comes from McKinney‑Vento and unaccompanied homeless youth and that the team has conducted 27 trauma‑informed plans of support so far this year.
The presenters pointed to community collaborations—DFACS referrals, partnerships with Family Promise and Forsyth Community Clinic—and local programs such as back‑to‑school events and parenting support groups. Crook emphasized the team’s data tracking and projections that sustained effort could increase parent contacts and interventions further by year‑end.
