The City of Eagle Pass Board of Adjustments approved a sign variance on Nov. 5 that will allow a proposed Olive Garden at 2059 North Veterans Boulevard to display four advertising signs, in addition to a directional 'to‑go' blade sign.

Staff reported that the zoning ordinance (section 15 HD 1 a) permits two permanent advertising signs per establishment; the applicant proposed a configuration showing four advertising signs and one directional blade. "This is another case where we have an ordinance that needs to be updated," staff said, and added signage‑related ordinance language is being drafted for council consideration.

Applicant David Michael described the plan and explained the separate signs were intended to direct dine‑in customers and to‑go pickups to different entrances. Staff mailed nine notices for the item and received two letters in favor and none in opposition. A board member moved to approve the variance; the motion was seconded and the chair declared the motion carried.

Staff said similar sign variances have been approved in the past for larger commercial properties and that the proposed configuration is commonly permitted in other municipalities; the city intends to include a sign‑ordinance update on its list of pending code changes.
