Division officials presented the elementary math textbook adoption review and recommended Kiddom Virginia Math for kindergarten through fifth grade after a 30‑day public display and input from teachers and community stakeholders.

Executive Director Lorena Kelly said the committee reviewed state‑approved core textbooks, collected about 400 stakeholder responses, and narrowed the options to two finalists. She presented estimated six‑year implementation costs: HMH Virginia Into Math at about $5,836,498.75 and Kiddom Virginia Math at about $5,490,326.70 — a difference of roughly $346,172.05 in estimated initial implementation costs. "Based on the committee members' recommendations, as well as teacher and community input, we are recommending Kiddom Virginia Math for elementary textbook adoption for a term of 6 years," Kelly said.

Panel members told trustees Kiddom rated higher on alignment to Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and usability metrics, while HMH offered additional resource packages that some teachers found overly large. Committee members said both finalists provide digital and print materials and consumables; implementation would include teacher editions and student consumables calibrated to projected enrollment (administration estimated about 28,000 K–5 students for planning).

The board did not take a final adoption vote on Nov. 10; staff said the recommendation will be on the consent agenda for the Nov. 25 meeting.
