District staff reported that staff at a local early intervention program noticed failing ceiling tiles and other signs of structural distress in a gym at the Robertsville/Crawfordsville facility. Structural engineers inspected the roof and recommended immediate shoring and closure of the gym while the district evaluates repairs.

A district presenter said engineers were “very concerned” about the roof structure and staff arranged shoring as a short-term safety measure. The presenter described the shoring as a temporary fix and indicated a long-term solution could be costly; board discussion referenced estimates in the range of hundreds of thousands to over $4 million for full repairs depending on scope.

Board member Dale moved “that we direct the district to look at options available for, croppers of its property” (transcribed language); Janice seconded. The board approved the motion unanimously and directed staff to research options including repair costs, legal constraints tied to prior property transfers, possible reuses and whether the district could relocate existing programs.

District staff noted some legal constraints associated with parcels and historical conditions attached to the property that will require research before any sale or redevelopment. Staff also said they are consulting with partners about using district space for early-intervention programs to increase accessibility for families.

Next steps: staff will study repair estimates, legal constraints and program relocation options and return with findings and recommendations to the board.
