Brookings High School FFA officers updated the school board on chapter activities, competitions and community service and described recent results at state and national events.
"Brookings alone this year has 168 members," chapter representatives said, and the presenters noted the chapter was ranked the No. 1 chapter in South Dakota and recognized as a 3‑star chapter. Students reported multiple team placements at national competitions: a gold for horse evaluation and multiple silver and top‑10 finishes across floriculture, meats evaluation and agricultural mechanics.
The chapter highlighted community-service events including an environmental cleanup at Edgebrook, a toy drive and Project Joy for Christmas, a farmer‑feed‑veterans letter campaign, and a career fair that draws about 10 businesses. Students also described chapter events such as kickoff night and Friendsgiving and explained leadership-development and SAE project opportunities.
Board members praised the chapter and encouraged continued community service and engagement. The board noted CTE organizations are important to workforce pipelines and highlighted local school programs that support students interested in becoming educators and agricultural careers.
Next steps: students will continue to compete at district and state events (district event referenced for the seventeenth; state conventions in April were discussed) and the board encouraged continued community partnerships.
