Chair (unnamed) of the Atchison County Commission on Nov. 10 canvassed the Nov. 4 general election and accepted 12 of 16 provisional ballots after a line‑by‑line review led by County Clerk Katie.

The clerk walked commissioners through each provisional ballot and recommended not counting four ballots: two where the voter had moved from out of state and not registered in Kansas, one lacking a valid registration by the Oct. 15 registration deadline, and another with an unresolved signature mismatch or missing contact information. The commission voted to accept the clerk’s recommendations by voice vote.

“It's higher than what we were anticipating—we thought about 1,200 and we had 1,514,” County Clerk Katie said when asked about turnout.

Staff and commissioners cited state statute guidance for provisional‑ballot handling when a signature or registration deadline must be verified before canvass action. The clerk noted several ballots were counted because the voter had moved within Atchison County or had timely registered.

After approving the provisional‑ballot recommendations, the commission returned to open session, accepted the official election results (winners unchanged from the unofficial tally) and voted to publish the certified results on the county website and social media.

The commission recorded its votes by voice; the meeting minutes show the formal approvals carried unanimously in the 3‑member vote.
