Gavin Henderson, Lyon County community development director, told the Planning Commission on Nov. 10 that the county has released a public survey to gather input on key water-resource issues and priorities. The survey contains nine general questions and is open for public response through Nov. 24.
Henderson encouraged residents and stakeholders to participate to share perspectives on water availability, conservation and long-term planning for Lyon County. He also announced a flood preparedness workshop set for Thursday, Nov. 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center; county staff and partner agencies will be on hand to answer questions, explain local flood risks and provide guidance on flood protection and emergency preparedness measures.
When asked whether a landowner could be prevented from selling water to a conservancy district, staff replied they were not aware of any legal recourse to block such a sale "to my knowledge." Henderson invited commissioners and residents to contact county staff with any follow-up questions about the survey or the workshop.
The survey and workshop are intended as part of an early public-engagement phase for water planning; any policy changes or formal regulatory steps would require separate processes and approvals.
