Atascosa County Commissioners Court approved a proclamation on Nov. 10, 2025, recognizing November 2025 as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Laura Benner of New Century Hospice in Pleasanton presented the proclamation and described hospice and palliative-care services and the county program that honors local veterans.
The proclamation, read aloud by the court, emphasized hospice professionals’ roles—physicians, nurses, social workers, health aides and clergy—in providing pain management, caregiver training and emotional support and noted that more than 1,600,000 Americans with life‑limiting illness receive care from hospice providers annually, as cited in the proclamation. Commissioner Gillespie moved to approve the proclamation; Commissioner Bowen seconded, and the court carried the motion.
The court invited Benner and other attendees for a photograph following the vote. No fiscal commitment or policy change accompanied the proclamation; it was a ceremonial recognition approved by unanimous voice vote as recorded in the minutes.
