Speaker 1, a city official, announced that York City observed the Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary with a flag-raising at City Hall and encouraged local organizations to request flag raisings. “If you have an organization or a sports team … you can contact us at mayor'soffice@yorkcity.org, and perhaps we will be raising your flag,” Speaker 1 said.
The official also said the city will raise the POW/MIA flag at 11:00 a.m. on Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day to remember those who have not returned home. “Tomorrow, at 11AM, that's November 11 at 11AM, we will be raising the POWMIA flag for Veterans Day remembering those, that have, not come home,” Speaker 1 said.
Why this matters: Flag-raising ceremonies mark official recognition of military anniversaries and veterans’ observances and are commonly held at municipal buildings. The city’s invitation for organizations to request flag raisings gives neighborhood groups and civic organizations a formal way to be recognized at City Hall.
The next scheduled ceremony is the POW/MIA flag raising at City Hall on Nov. 11 at 11:00 a.m. No formal votes or policy actions were recorded during the announcements.
