The West Chester Area School District presented a follow‑up on AP, dual and concurrent enrollment options and associated data trends.
Staff summarized three college‑credit pathways: Advanced Placement (AP), dual enrollment and concurrent enrollment. For students who took AP exams, the district reported the share scoring a 3 or higher increased from 76% (2022–23 and 2023–24) to 85% in recent reporting. Presenters cautioned that AP credit is awarded at college discretion and that AP pass rates shown reflect only students who took AP exams, not total AP enrollment.
Regarding college credit in high school, the district said most students seeking credit currently opt for concurrent enrollment offerings taught in district classrooms through West Chester University and the University of Pittsburgh. Staff also added that they will examine course demographics to understand and address why students of color access college‑level courses at lower rates and promised to share those analyses with the committee.
The committee discussed scheduling implications of the state’s new personal finance graduation requirement and how TCHS scheduling changes (social studies offerings) will affect students’ ability to access required courses. Staff said they are exploring pathways to accommodate the added requirement.
