Members of the Salinas Youth City Council updated the Salinas City Council on recent activities and future plans.
Marisol Mederos, youth council chair, said the group participates in a superintendent advisory committee and emphasized the council’s aim to elevate student voices. Youth council members described involvement in community events such as El Grito, the March for Peace and Ciclovia, and said they plan a temporary sidewalk art piece by Alisal and other civic projects.
The youth council said it is applying for a $2,500 grant through the County STRIVE program to produce five social‑media public‑service announcements in support of its projects; councilmembers encouraged the group and offered mentorship opportunities, including shadowing council members and participating in future meetings.
Councilmembers praised the youth council’s energy and recommended continued involvement in city activities and boards; staff and council suggested follow‑up on grant status and integration of youth in future agenda items. No council votes were required for the presentation.
