The Chicago Transit Authority Accessibility Advisory Committee on a short July meeting acknowledged recent transit legislation that produced funding for accessibility improvements and staffing.
"We got funding through, which also means we will get that additional staffer, right, for, under Irma," Chair Laura Saltzman said, calling the result a "real big win" for accessible transportation. Irma Gomez, CTA’s ADA compliance manager, was introduced during the meeting and was identified as the staff member who will work on the initiatives discussed.
Committee members said the funding will allow the CTA to continue accessibility work and to add staff support to the ADA compliance office; the transcript did not specify the funding source or dollar amounts. The announcement came during a brief round of committee introductions and general announcements; no formal action was taken on funding during the meeting.
The committee’s next scheduled meeting is Jan. 12, 2026 at 1:30 p.m., and members indicated the additional staff will support ongoing accessibility projects reported to the committee. The CTA staff and committee will provide project‑level details and timing in future meetings, according to attendees.
