Lewiston — The Lewiston City Council on Nov. 10 approved Resolution 2025‑50, a state‑local Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) agreement with the Idaho Transportation Department to fund pedestrian improvements on 8th Street between 5th and 11th avenues.

Public Works Director Dustin Johnson told the council the TAP program commonly funds sidewalks and non‑vehicular improvements that connect residential areas to schools, downtown and parks. "This grant ... is 8th Street, between 5th Avenue and 11th Avenue," he said, and noted the award carries a 7.34% local match, with the grantee covering the remainder.

Johnson said the cost figures in the council packet are estimates produced for the grant application and that the city will hire an engineer to design the project and provide firm bid numbers. He told councilors the project complements a separate lighting grant already secured for the corridor.

The council voted to authorize the mayor to sign the state‑local agreement. Staff said next steps include design, LTAC coordination and return to council with final engineering and project‑delivery timelines.
