Queen Anne's County Housing Authority staff told the board they are monitoring funding pressure on the Housing Choice Voucher program and reported progress on project-based vouchers at Slippery Hill.
S2 said the authority "continues to manage about 214 vouchers, including 179 traditional vouchers, 14 project-based vouchers, and a few specialized vouchers for veterans and foster youth". The director warned that rising rents create shortfalls for many housing authorities; HUD had been providing funding through October and staff expected near-term coverage but said a prolonged federal shutdown could create difficulties.
On Slippery Hill, S2 said the authority opened its project-based voucher wait list on Oct. 29 and closed it Nov. 4. By 3 p.m. on opening day the authority had received 81 applications and by the close there were 166 applications in total. Of the 14 project-based units, six were filled and eight remained to be placed; staff said they are working to have units filled by January 1, contingent on unit turnover and coordination with Slippery Hill management.
The board received these updates without taking formal votes. Staff said they are participating in national calls with the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials for guidance and that a new auditing firm is conducting financial reviews of voucher operations.
