Williamsburg — The Williamsburg City Council on Nov. 10 introduced an ordinance to amend City Code Chapter 82, Article 1, Section 14, changing which streets are restricted for truck traffic.

City staff attorney Mister Hampt told the council the measure “provides for 1 addition and 1 deletion from the restriction on truck traffic,” adding that “the restriction will be applied to Sherwood Avenue, from the city limits to its terminus,” and that the deletion “involves Oak Lane.” No public hearing was required, he said.

Council member Wood moved to introduce the ordinance and Miss Comby seconded the motion. The mayor stated the ordinance, having been introduced and discussed, “will receive final consideration at the November 24 meeting”. The transcript does not record a roll-call vote on the introduction that night.

Why it matters: the change will alter which local streets are off limits to certain truck traffic, affecting routing for commercial vehicles and potentially noise and wear on neighborhoods adjacent to Sherwood Avenue. Staff did not provide detailed traffic counts or an analysis on Nov. 10.
