Commissioners praised a recent junior pheasant hunt and outlined plans to expand youth hunting and outdoor education in Del Norte County.

Speaker 1 reported that an elk hunter donated $1,000 to the Grange 501(c)(3) to support youth hunting activities, and several commissioners and sponsors — including McDonald’s and Rocky Mountain Elk — were thanked for providing food, porta-potties and other support. "He's donating, a thousand dollars to the Grange 5 0 1 c 3 to help with the elk hunt," Speaker 1 said.

Speaker 1 also said three Fish and Game staff involved in youth programs will meet mid-December with the local superintendent and Humboldt County education officials to discuss implementing an approved Fish and Game curriculum in local schools, allowing students to earn hunter-education credit and potentially biology or physical-education credit. Commissioners noted the curriculum is already approved in California and used in other states, which could simplify local adoption.

Commissioners discussed using photographs and online pages to recognize sponsors and volunteers and suggested a FogBank or similar vendor may build a website or Facebook page for event photos.
