Organizers for a downtown holiday music event asked Homewood’s Committee as a Whole on Nov. 10 to allow a Dec. 1 performance in the city right-of-way in front of Track Shack.
“Live music, Christmas theme music … it’d be 1 of 3 people out there singing, playing musical instruments for the holidays,” said Brett, who identified himself as representing the Shelby County Reporter and Homewood Life Magazine, and said Track Shack agreed to allow use of extension cords. Mayor Andress confirmed the council would take the item to the Nov. 24 council meeting for formal consideration.
Councilors asked organizers to coordinate logistics with neighboring businesses and with seasonal displays. A councilor noted the menorah planned for the same area and asked organizers to coordinate placement; Brett said the group would “make sure everything works for the community” and that Homewood Theatre already has an event on Dec. 13. The committee also discussed an indemnification agreement; organizers were asked to provide contact information so the city can finalize required paperwork.
No vote was taken at the Nov. 10 pre-meeting; the item was carried to the Nov. 24 council meeting for a formal decision. The city clerk or city manager’s office will circulate indemnification instructions and contact information in advance of that meeting.
