City staff and project representatives told the committee the Homewood Public Library’s phase 4 renovation is the final phase but that bids came in about $127,000 over the allotted budget.
“Phase 4 bid and we're about a $127,000 over budget,” a project representative said and proposed moving $127,000 from a US-31 tunnel bond project that is not expected to proceed until March–April 2026 to cover the overage so work can proceed.
Officials described phase 4 work as new carpeting, wall coverings and lighting in the children’s department, finishing a large auditorium ceiling grid and lighting, and updates to administration space. Staff said phase 3 is nearly complete and the phase 4 contractor will begin once materials arrive.
Councilors asked procedural questions about the contract and the AIA contract form; staff said the contract and resolution would be circulated and the council would vote on the contract at the regular meeting. No formal vote was taken at the pre-meeting; the item was carried to the Nov. 24 council agenda for action.
