The Lawrenceburg City Redevelopment Board on Nov. 10 approved an additional $9,200 to complete structural work needed to install a sign at the Liberty Theater.
Executive Director Bridal Messmer told the board crews discovered unstable masonry and ceiling conditions while preparing to mount the sign, and the previously approved $10,000 contingency for electrical and minor interior work did not cover the re‑engineering and reinforcement required. "We had approved a $10,000 contingency to do the electrical work and some minor stuff inside," Messmer said, adding that the extra structural work was outside that scope and would cost about $9,180 to address.
Messmer said the Convention and Visitors Bureau contributed more than $33,000 toward the sign, and urged the board to approve the extra funds so the installation — and a scheduled grand turn‑on — would not be delayed. "If we don't approve this tonight, then that sign's not going up Friday," she said.
Member Richard Richardson moved to approve the additional $9,200 with a stipulation that Director Brian Johnson seek any available outside assistance; the motion was seconded and the board voted in favor. The transcript records the vote as "Aye" and notes the motion passed; a full roll-call tally was not recorded in the public transcript.
The board instructed staff to continue seeking other funding partners to offset the added cost. Messmer said she would pursue additional contributions if the board approved the recommendation. "I will work, I will do that for you guys," she said.
The board took the action as part of its old business agenda; the sign manufacturer and installation were reported to be on a tight schedule.
