At the Nov. 10 meeting, the student board representative and building principals highlighted recent student achievements across athletics, theater, advanced academics and career preparation.
Student representative Makai told trustees the boys soccer team made its first-ever appearance at the state competition and multiple athletes earned YAIAA all‑conference honors; the Trojan Theater production of Radium Girls set attendance records and became the most attended play in district history. High school administrators reported continued strength in AP participation and dual‑enrollment partnerships with York College, and previewed new AP offerings including AP cybersecurity and AP business.
Career‑focused pathways were a repeated emphasis: administrators noted students earned OSHA certifications, ServSafe credentials and that the district graduated 15 EMT‑certified students last year with a similar target this year; 17 internships and three apprenticeships were also reported. The high school leader said these credentials are an important part of college and career readiness and a complement to academic work.
Why it matters: these programs provide alternate postsecondary pathways and contribute to the district’s stated portrait‑of‑a‑graduate competencies, while theater and athletics contribute to community engagement.
What’s next: administrators said they will continue to expand college-in-high-school partnerships, monitor SAT/PSAT participation trends and return with course proposals in December.
