Jennifer, the library director, told the board the library had postponed a memory screening due to low attendance and set a replacement date of Jan. 10. Staff said a program presenter who had been scheduled for a "how-to" clinic accepted paid work and will not attend; Caitlin Sprout will not be part of that clinic as originally planned.
Staff described outreach efforts and partnerships: the library is hosting two Pacifica students this year and is arranging a volunteer teen to provide weekday tech help for seniors as part of a 50-hour service commitment. The director also reported attending a regional librarians meeting and hosting a visiting author and illustrator; staff said most of the author's works are already in the collection.
Jennifer outlined a proposed sister library partnership with Puerta Abierta, a small school and library in Lehiachitlan, Guatemala, which the board said would start small and explore ALA sponsorship and available small grants (described as approximately $1,000 to $1,500) to support initial programming and book purchases. The board discussed synchronous story times and classroom connections as possible early activities.
Staff reported ongoing fourth-grade outreach to sign students up for library cards; that effort accounted for the majority of 116 new library registrations in the most recent reporting period. The board also noted library usage trends: a year-over-year rise in Wi-Fi use and a modest decline in in-library computer sessions.
