Phyllis Gant, a member of the public, addressed the Lubbock County Commissioners Court during the public comment period and asked for an investigation into the death of a Texas Tech student she identified as Erskine Charles Jenkins. "What is all the fuss around Erskine Charles Jenkins? We need investigation into child death," Gant said during her two-minute comment.

The court received the comment during the public comment portion of its Nov. 10, 2025 meeting. No commissioner moved for any formal action in response to the comment while on the record, and no staff report or criminal-investigation update was provided at that time.
