Recreation Services Administrator Jill Toda provided the commission with an update on upcoming recreation division programs and holiday events for November and December.
Toda said the first digital edition of the community services program was emailed Oct. 23 to about 2,645 patrons. Cerritos resident online and walk-in registration for winter programs began at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1; nonresident registration begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7.
Staff highlighted a youth basketball skills clinic on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Heritage Park from 10–11:30 a.m. that will teach dribbling, rebounding and shooting. Fee is $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents. Tod a also announced a Veterans Day offer: the Cerritos Ironwood 9 Golf Course will provide a 50% discount on green fees to U.S. veterans who present their Department of Defense separation form, DD-214.
Toda reviewed holiday hours and closures for the Thanksgiving period and corrected an earlier in-meeting date error to reflect the standard Thanksgiving date (the city’s programs will observe Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 27). She also described seasonal activities: children up to age 11 may email Santa Nov. 24–Dec. 12; Santa will appear at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the adaptive families holiday event is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13 (registration required; $10 per person); and a teen workshop on social skills is set for Dec. 13 (10–11:30 a.m.), free for ages 13–18.
Toda said more details will appear in the winter community services program and invited residents to call the recreation services division at (562) 916-1254 for additional information.
Ending: Staff will follow up with the commission on program registration metrics and any adjustments needed for holiday operations.
