The Providence City Council on Nov. 6 adopted a resolution honoring Eugenio Fernandez Jr., Pharm.D., for his public-health work in Providence and across Rhode Island.

The clerk read the resolution text, which notes Fernandez's work as an independent pharmacist serving the 11th Ward, his partnerships during the COVID-19 pandemic in delivering screening and vaccination services, and honors including a Public Health Innovator Award from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The resolution also notes that Fernandez has served on multiple health-related boards.

A council member who introduced the resolution described Fernandez's decision to locate his practice in a marginalized neighborhood and praised his both-clinical-and-community work, including medication deliveries to homebound patients and vaccine outreach during the pandemic. "He advocated tirelessly for the poorest and the most vulnerable to receive tests and treatments and vaccinations," the introducer said.

The council voted to adopt the resolution by voice vote; the clerk recorded passage. The clerk was directed to deliver copies of the resolution to Dr. Fernandez and his pharmacy, Asthena's.
