The Charter Office presented a comprehensive review and recommended a four-year renewal for the Community School for Apprenticeship Learning (CSAIL). Talay Lockett, executive director of charter schools, summarized the review process as including academic, financial, operational and governance analysis and recommended renewal based on steady student achievement and organizational effectiveness.
During questions, Board member Martin asked whether any subgroups had been identified as "urgent intervention required." Charter staff and CSAIL principal Yvonne Santos confirmed that students with disabilities were the subgroup noted. Santos, who introduced herself as the first-year principal after 12 years at the school, explained leadership continuity and responded to the board’s questions about subgroup supports.
Board member Martin and others praised CSAIL for community responsiveness; several board members recused where noted. After trustee comments and a motion to approve, the board approved the four-year renewal.
