During the parish-president report on Nov. 6, Parish President Steve Urgan updated the council on the county animal-control facility, saying construction is nearly complete and the public is enthusiastic about the new facility.

‘‘Basically, we're gonna be 95% complete by the end of the year, guys,’’ Urgan said, noting that a construction handout shows a lower percent complete in its schedule but that parish staff expect the facility to be ready for a February grand opening.

Urgan said construction progress has generated many public calls and that the parish intends to continue work toward opening and staffing the facility. Council members thanked staff and acknowledged public interest in the project.
