The city’s pool rehabilitation at the facility referred to in the meeting as the Bald/Badlung pool is progressing, the Department of Public Works said.
Frank Correo, director of public works, told the Public Works Committee that gunite walls and floors have been installed and that form removal should be complete the next day. Crews will then backfill around the pool to grade and install stainless steel gutters around the pool to capture runoff; that work was scheduled to begin Nov. 17. Correo said interior work on the pool house — including final coats of paint — is underway and scheduled to continue the next week.
Correo said the project will undergo a winter shutdown after the exterior backfill and gutter work are finished, with construction expected to resume in March or April and target a July opening for the pool. He said the splash pad is not being installed this season; the administration plans to advertise that project for bid in January, award a contract and construct the pad in March–April so it can open concurrently with the pool in July. The splash pad will use fresh non‑recirculated water, Correo said, citing public‑health and maintenance considerations.
Council members pressed for schedule and circulation details; Correo confirmed there is matching funds in place and that planning and community‑development review will include a public hearing. He said the design and grant elements are in hand and that the administration anticipates breaking ground in the spring.
Ending
Director Correo asked the committee to remove the splash pad item from the agenda until January and said he would return with bid specifications and a timeline for award and construction.
