Sergeant Bisegli of the Norwalk Police Department's marine unit updated the Norwalk Shellfish Commission on enforcement activity during the Oct. meeting period and said the department opened a criminal investigation into a commercial fisherman alleged to have been working on recreational grounds.

Bisegli said the barge that grounded in October temporarily obstructed the Norwalk River but produced no major shellfish impacts. He described issuing a citation to a commercial fisherman for a shellfish-ordinance violation and said a subsequent complaint led the department to open a criminal investigation that is ongoing; Bisegli said he could not share the boat name while the investigation remains active.

He also reported recent on-water conditions and noted water temperatures around 53 degrees during a recent call. Bisegli asked commissioners to follow up directly for additional specifics once the investigation is concluded.

No formal enforcement outcomes were announced at the meeting; Bisegli said the investigation will conclude and any further action would be discussed when appropriate.
