Johnson County commissioners voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 128‑25, which prohibits through truck traffic on certain local roadways designated by Johnson County Public Works and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Ryan Sims of Public Works told the board the targeted roads are narrow with limited turnouts and that large trucks hauling trailers have overturned or damaged adjacent property in the area. He said reasonable alternate access exists and the resolution includes explicit exemptions for local trucks, emergency vehicles, agricultural vehicles and road maintenance equipment. "If there is a specific need for trucks to access this area, they will be exempt from the ordinance," Sims said.
Commissioners asked about public notice to truck operators and whether the briefing materials included the exhibit map showing affected streets. Staff said they would release a public notice with a map after board approval and acknowledged Exhibit A was not included in the online packet. "We do intend to release a public notice with a map of the area that will be impacted," staff said.
Commissioner Myers moved to adopt resolution 128‑25; Commissioner Brewer seconded. The roll call vote was 6–0 in favor.
Public‑notice and mapping steps will follow the board action so that residents and carriers can identify the restricted segments before signs are fully enforced.
