Broadwater County commissioners approved a one-year renewal agreement for inmate excess medical insurance and claims administration provided through Correctional Risk Services (brokered through Mako).
Johnny Spurlock, Broadwater County jail commander, presented the renewal. He said the prior year's cost was $0.08 per inmate per day; the new rate declined by four cents per inmate per day. He also described optional coverage for guarding costs when a sheriff’s deputy must guard an inmate during medical treatment; when a combined $10,000 deductible is met, the coverage pays 50 percent of guarding costs. The guarding option adds approximately $0.05 per inmate per day.
Commissioners moved, seconded, and approved the 2025–2026 renewal by voice vote. No additional details of premium totals or county budget adjustments were provided during the meeting.
