County officials announced changes to courthouse public access tied to security assessments the county has completed. Starting Dec. 1, the Broadwater County Courthouse will be limited to one public entry and exit to improve public and staff safety. The entry will be the parking-lot entrance, which provides access to an elevator and handicap parking.
Officials said the county cannot currently afford full screening equipment such as walk-through metal detectors. Instead, the county will implement internal door security, add service windows to offices such as the Clerk and Recorder, and direct most public business to window service points where practical. Staff are pursuing grant opportunities to fund additional improvements and plan to publicize changes and circulation plans to the public.
Officials asked residents to share information about the change, and commissioners and staff said they will provide more details and printed materials for anyone who does not use the county website.
