The Hardee County Board of County Commissioners adopted a proclamation on Nov. 6 declaring November 2025 as Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month in Hardee County.
Lori Friars of the Hardee Help Center told the board the center has provided “nearly 30,000 pounds of food” and has offered more than 1,000 homeless services this year. The proclamation recognizes National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (Nov. 16–20) and encourages support for food and homelessness prevention services and community volunteer opportunities.
Commissioners thanked the Hardee Help Center staff for their work and noted that hunger and homelessness are present in the county despite perceptions otherwise. The board voted unanimously to adopt the proclamation and invited Friars and center staff to pose for a photo with the commissioners.
The proclamation text, as read at the meeting, notes the county’s intent to educate the public about food insecurity and homelessness and to encourage support from private, public and nonprofit organizations.
