During public forum, parent Renee Pacheco asked the Albuquerque Public Schools board to disclose which student survey had been administered to middle and high school students, who approved it and what questions it contained, and to confirm whether parents received prior notice and an opportunity to opt out as required by the federal Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA).

Pacheco said some parents were surprised to learn that the survey included personal questions about behavior, mental health and other sensitive topics. She urged the board to suspend future surveys on protected topics until the district verifies PPRA compliance and provides documentation to parents.

The comment was part of public forum testimony; the board did not take immediate action on the request during the meeting. The district indicated it would work with administration to follow up and provide additional information to the board and the public as appropriate.
