Kenneth Bounds, a resident of Colorado Drive in Erie, told City Council that on Oct. 23 his home experienced sewage and water entering the basement despite a backflow preventer.

"This is not the only time this has happened," Bounds said. He asked the city to provide an engineering report on the causes of the backups on South Shore Drive and to work with Mill Creek Township to make infrastructure improvements to prevent a recurrence.

A council member asked administration to have the engineering department examine the drainage system on South Shore Drive. Administration reported the city sewer department has been actively investigating conditions in the area since the Oct. 23 event.

Bounds said he found the experience "disgusting" and urged follow-up beyond standard guidance about insurance claims and deductibles. Council did not record a formal motion or vote on the matter during the meeting; administration indicated staff would investigate and report back.
