Wright County commissioners on Nov. 4 adopted the proposed 2026 fee schedule after a focused debate on proposed increases to planning and zoning permit fees.

Commissioner Diedrich asked that planning and zoning permit fees be held at 2025 levels, saying the proposed 24% increase could make housing and remodeling less affordable. That motion lacked a second and therefore failed. County planning staff and administration explained the increase as an effort to more accurately recoup the cost of services: inspectors' time and mileage, additional back-office review of photos and returned inspection trips. Staff said building-permit work constitutes a substantial portion of revenue-driving activity, and a one-time adjustment would be preferable to small annual increases.

After discussion, Commissioner Holland moved to approve the fee schedule as presented; Commissioner Moyna seconded. The board approved the fee schedule 3-1.
