Jeffersontown City Council recessed its meeting and scheduled a special session for Thursday the 13th after staff told the council the city's insurance policy lapses Nov. 30 and open enrollment begins the following week.

City staff said Anthem moved the insurance effective date to Dec. 1 this renewal year, compressing the timeframe for a council decision. Staff reported they requested a one‑month extension on the current policy; that extension would cost roughly $13,000, and staff framed a prompt council decision as the way to avoid that added expense.

Because the council could not form the administrative committee quickly enough to meet and then convene the full council before open enrollment, staff recommended the full council meet once as a forum to receive presentations from insurers and make a decision. Staff invited Chip Atkins to be available for a Wednesday or Thursday presentation and asked councilors to preserve availability. Council members discussed dates and availability and settled on next Thursday the 13th with a 2:30 p.m. session for the insurance presentation and a 4:30 p.m. start for the ad hoc amphitheater review.

The mayor asked that members review a preliminary amphitheater contract that staff will distribute by email before the recessed meeting. The council moved to recess until Thursday the 13th at 2:30 p.m.; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
