The Sarasota City Public Art Committee on Nov. 5 approved reinstallation of "Exotic 10," a painted steel sculpture by artist David Parikh that has been conserved and is ready for placement at the City of Sarasota Public Works campus.

Staff reported that the work was originally installed around 2000 at Main Street and Palm Avenue, moved to a later roundabout site, and placed in storage during street renovations. The public-art program located records and a bill of sale and contracted restoration; staff said the restored work and its original base are ready for reuse.

Staff recommended the Public Works campus as an appropriate location for reinstallation, noting the sites public visibility, the campuss history of supporting public art and the cost-efficiency of reusing the existing base. The acting public works director had expressed support for hosting the work on city property.

Committee members discussed plaque and lighting needs, and staff confirmed the city holds the contract documentation and will manage installation. A motion to approve reinstallation passed unanimously; staff will proceed with plans for pedestal, lighting and plaque placement and return with schedule updates as needed.
