The Sarasota City Public Art Committee reviewed and approved projection-mapping content created by Ringling College Motion Design students to be shown on the Palm Avenue parking garage during the Arts on Palm Fresh Fridays event.

Ed Sheatham, a Ringling faculty member, presented a 15-minute loop of student animations that use trompe-loeil techniques to create the illusion of three-dimensional forms emerging from the parking-garage scrims. Sheatham described technical challenges, including camera alignment, color contrast loss due to the scrim material and ambient street lighting, and explained that a loaned Barco projector and lens would be used for the event.

Staff noted the projection will run concurrent with live music and that organizers will do a test run Thursday evening before the public showing Friday. The studentswork included references to local cultural touchpoints (opera, manatees, waterfront motifs) and the committee discussed viewing perspectives, audience conditions and distribution of printed program cards at the event. The committee moved to approve the studentsfinal animation designs; the motion passed unanimously.

Staff and Ringling faculty said they plan to evaluate logistics, sightlines and post-event feedback as a pilot for future projection-mapping collaborations.
