At a Town of Clayton meeting, organizers announced there was not a quorum and adjourned the session, asking members to review a fee schedule that has not been updated in about eight to nine years.
An unidentified staff member said, “We don't have to have meetings on Tuesday at 6. We could come up with another time that works for everybody better,” and asked members to consider moving regular meetings to a different weekday or to 7 p.m. next year.
The staff member said the group needs to review the fee schedule for building permits, fence permits and variance applications and noted that “the application for a variance is $400.” The staff member added that part of that fee “is supposed to pay for the times, time and and energies that we have to spend researching the the law that they've asked us to change” and to cover potential costs if the group needs to consult a planner or lawyer.
Attendees were told that any fee changes would need to be published so applicants would know when to appear for public hearings. Because there was no quorum, the meeting was adjourned; the staff member said the group will reconvene on the first Tuesday of next month to continue discussion.
Organizers confirmed that a person named Pete handed out the current fee figures at the meeting and asked members to review them before the December session. The staff member said some fees could be lowered or raised depending on members' review, but no formal adjustments were made at this meeting because business could not proceed without a quorum.
The meeting closed at 6:04 p.m.
