The mayor told the commission that at a delegation meeting the city received a $900,000 state appropriation — the first state appropriation the city has received — to support public-works equipment. "This is the first time this city has ever gotten appropriations from the state. Got $900,000," the mayor said. She described a $2,600,000 project in which the appropriation will be applied and said staff will design the best approach for protecting equipment exposed to ocean salt.
The mayor also said the city is asking for an additional about $700,000 and mentioned a separate figure, "$3.25," for a piece of equipment; she said staff would provide more information later. The commission did not adopt any funding allocations during the meeting.
Separately, the mayor, who serves as co-chair of the county stormwater mitigation committee, said municipalities are collaborating to develop solutions to flooding after noting that other cities experienced more severe flooding from recent storms. The mayor encouraged a focus on solutions rather than repeating the problem statement.
The mayor also announced upcoming coastal-related public outreach: Jessica Fentress, the county coastal division director, will speak about beach renourishment at a public "Coffee with the Mayor" event.
