City officials agreed to participate in Operation Greenlight to honor veterans by lighting public buildings green from Nov. 4 to Nov. 11.

"Operation Greenlight is a project that municipalities and, county governments are engaging in to ensure that former service members in our community have access to the resources they need," a staff member said. Staff said lighting for the meeting building was ready and additional hardware for other city buildings was en route and expected to arrive tomorrow, with staff hoping to have other buildings lit by the end of the week.

Commissioners voiced support. One commissioner said she was "100% in favor of it" and described family ties to veterans. The community services director said staff was honored to carry out the effort and noted that materials outlining veterans' services are available in city buildings. The commission did not attach additional funding to the action at the meeting.
