The Evansville Parks Commission on Nov. 5 authorized removal and replacement of an aging fence at Caldwell Park after staff reported repeated incidents of vehicles driving through the park and damaging landscaping.

Danielle, a parks staff member, told commissioners the existing fence is visibly deteriorated and a safety concern. "This park backs up to a little alley, and there have been some issues with cars driving into and through the park, tearing up the grass landscaping," Danielle said. She said the JD Sheff Foundation applied for and received a grant to help cover the replacement work.

Staff said the planned work will relocate the maintenance access gate closer to the street rather than farther down the alley to deter vehicle access and reduce damage to turf and plantings. The board approved the request by voice vote. Staff listed a follow-up task to schedule installation and manage grant documentation.
