The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners paused its Nov. 4 agenda to read a Veterans Day proclamation and publicly recognize five county residents who served in the U.S. military.

The proclamation noted roughly 20,000 Sarpy County residents are military veterans and declared the week through Nov. 11, 2025, as a time to honor those who have served. Commissioners introduced honorees Sydney L. Howard (U.S. Navy, Vietnam service), Col. Bob Servant (U.S. Air Force, retired; volunteer with Disabled American Veterans), Chief Master Sergeant Jeff Johnson (U.S. Air Force), Senior Master Sergeant David Dietz (U.S. Air Force), and Ron DePiel (U.S. Air Force; unable to attend). Commissioners read brief biographies, acknowledged medals and volunteer service, and invited honorees and families for photos.

During the presentation, Col. Bob Servant described the Disabled American Veterans chapter's work helping veterans apply for benefits and transport them to medical appointments, and urged veterans who may be eligible to seek help from county or veterans service officers. County leaders also noted that several county buildings will participate in Operation Green Light by lighting green to show support for veterans.

The ceremony concluded with thanks from commissioners and an invitation for veterans and families to stay for photos. The board then resumed its regular agenda.
